Garfield Dollhouse Build #69 – Hello 2017 & Feathered Friends

I have been very slack in posting.  But, I have been working on my dollhouse.  First of all, I like to wish everyone a happy and healthy year.   As stated previously, I take the holidays off to embrace the season.  Christmas is my favorite time of the year and then January rolls around and I procastinate putting away all my christmas decorations.   I have so many projects that I am currently working on for the dollhouse.  I have been punching out wood pieces, sanding, and gluing them together.  I’ve been painting and gluing stones on the rest of the tower and the chimney  that I have been building for my dollhouse.  I have also added on more of the dollhouse roof and only have a few more pieces to add before it is done.  One of these days i’ll finish the railings and the rest of trim work inside the house.  I’ve just been distracted with the outside for now.

So speaking of the outside, I found an addorable owl, his name is Yoshi, that I plan on building a nest for and placing on the roof next to the tower.  In the flat square area that I ended up with after altering the wall in the master bedroom.  He’ll be so cute there.  I also purchased a parrott and a white cage that I am planning on placing on the patio off the basement.  Which I have yet to work on.

Garfield Dollhouse Build #68 – Siding

Sorry I haven’t posted in awhile.  I have been working on my dollhouse.  I finally finished gluing all the skinny sticks on the gables.  I still have to sand and stain them but the rest of the roof will be going up any day now.   In one of my mini breaks from skinny sticks, I painted some siding and started to put it on the lower section of the front of the dollhouse.  I wanted to get that done so I can start working on the front porch railing.  I’m not quite done yet.   But these pictures will give an general ideal on how it will look.    I love the color, it turned out great.

Garfield Dollhouse Build #67 – Stone work on Tower

I have decided to do the outside tower part of the dollhouse in stone.  So this weekend I decided to see what it would look like.   I completed the lower portion of the tower just for giggles.  I LOVE it.  I still have to put the mortar between the stones but I think it will look awesome.  So I need to get the porch roof on so I can finish the rest of the tower.  I needed a break from the skinny sticks.

Garfield Dollhouse Build #66 – Attic Sitting Area

I’ve been looking for furniture for the sitting area in the attic.  I was having a hard time finding something I liked and that would go well with the busy colors and patterns that I already had going on in the attic.   I was looking for a solid colored sofa set.  After months of searching the internet I finally found a set that I like and goes well.

Garfield Dollhouse Build #63 – Attic Flooring

So I went multi colored flooring in the attic as well.  This particular pattern has been a pain and has taken forever to do.  I cut every piece and they had to be exactly the same length to make the pattern work.   I decided to go with a dark brown felt for the carpeting in the attic bedroom.  I like the pattern design in it.  So this is what I have been working on for the last 2 weeks.   Now it’s back to gluing skinny sticks on the gables.

Garfield Dollhouse Build #62 – Master Bedroom and Bathroom

I installed the wall between the master bedroom and bathroom and completed all the trim work in the master bedroom.   I found a frosted insert for the bathroom doors and used the same treatment for them that I did on the laundry room door.  I just used different colors to match the decor of the 2 rooms.  I am working on getting the windows painted and hope to have them installed soon.

Garfield Dollhouse Build #61 – Changed wall in attic

After much thought I decided to cut the wall in the attic in half.   I felt that the original wall just made that space feel to closed off and cramped and block sight lines.  I want to be able to actually see the attic.  I’m planning on leaving off the removable section of the roof.   So it made sense take the wall down.   Here are before and after pictures.  When the rest of the roof is on this will make more sense.  With that wall up that back corner becomes unaccessable.  Once the railing is installed it will flow together nicely.

Garfield Dollhouse Build #59 – Second Floor Landing

I had some wood pieces leftover from the study floor kit and master bedroom kit. I didn’t want to waste them and since I hadn’t decided what to do for the hallway outside the master bedroom I decided to play around to see what I could come up with.  I only had one small wood square left so I used it as a patteren and cut 30 more out of the strip wood I had left from the living room.  The upstairs hallway floor is now complete.  I really liked the way it turned out.  Mistakes and all.

Now I can put in doors and crown molding and trim on the second floor.   On to the next project.

Garfield Dollhouse Build #58 – Master Bedroom Flooring

I’ve been lazy the last couple of weeks.  So I haven’t got a lot done on my dollhouse.  I did manage to get the flooring of the master bedroom done.   To clarify these are actual wood pieces,  I don’t cut them out, they come in pattern kits.  I thought that I would try them in the master bedroom and study.  Just something different.  I really didn’t want to use the same flooring throughout the house.  I like each room to have it’s own personality.  I am trying to stick with a multiwood color floor theme throughout the house though.   The one exception to this will be the attic.  I’ll more than likely use one solid color.  That’s the plan for now.  As we all know the plan is always subject to change.

Garfield Dollhouse Build #57 – Revisiting the window seats

I just didn’t like the first cushion that I did for the upstair hallway window seat.  So I have made a new one.  I tried to make this one look like it is tufted.  Not for sure I was very successful.  But hey, if you have read my blog to date you know that sewing is my nemesis.  I do like this new version better and I am planing on making the curtains out of the same material.  So I am now please with both window seats.  Just need some pillows.  I also finished making all of the subflooring for the rest of the house.  My next goal is to finish the rest of the flooring and attic gables.  So this is a lot of tedious and time consuming work.  So don’t be surprised if you don’t hear from me for a couple of weeks.  As I get sections done I’ll post updates.

Here’s before and after

Per a request I’m posting additional pictures of window seats

Garfield Dollhouse Build #56 – Wallpapering

With the exception of the back wall in the bathroom (I need the roof panel to go in) I have completed wallpapering my dollhouse.    I still have to do all the trim work, basboards and the ceiling in the master bedroom and bathroom.  But those are small items that I  will come back to.   I decided not to use the bead board that I was planning on using in the bathroom.  I just didn’t like the way it looked.  So I bought some railing cut outs and decided to use those instead.  I am much happier.  I need to paint them white and put them up.  I think they’ll look awesome and contrast against the lavender background.  Just a touch of fun design.    I also wallpapered the tower room. Here are picks of bedroom, bathroom, and tower room.  I also modified the bathroom vanity by making it a solid top with new wash bowl sitting on top and installing a new faucet.  One of the things I altered in the master bedroom was I removed a small wall that was located in front of the bedroom door.  This took a little bit of brain storming to figure out how to close up the hole this wall left in the floor above and on the outside of the house.  But where there’s a will there is a way.  I think I did a good job of it.  I have yet to  install the door panel that goes between the master bedroom and the bathroom.  It’s just placed there for the benefit of the photo.  So you don’t need to mention that it looks crooked and that the seams are off.  When I permanently attach it.  It will look better than the photo here shows.

Garfield Dollhouse Build #55 – Attic Rafters Project

I gave a lot of thought about the attic and how to decorate it to complete the dollhouse.  A lot of people put wallpaper on the gables.  But I wanted the attic gables to have a wood slats look like you would normally see in an attic.  So my bright idea was to glue skinny sticks on all the gables.  This is a lot of work and very tedious and time consuming.  It’s has taken me forever to just do 3 sections.  I still have 5 more sections to go.  But I am happy with the results.  I also decided to keep the color in the attic to golds, beige and yellow tones so hopefully the open sections will blend into each other.  I’ve made some progress but have tons more to do.   I’m going to take a break from gluing skinny sticks  and switch over to working on the second floor hallway and master bedroom flooring.  Hopefully, I’ll have another post soon.  Happy Birthday to my entire family whom all happen to be born in June.  How does that happen.  So happy birthday to Connor and Nathan (my nephew and son, who not only happen to be born in June but on the same day no less).  Happy Birthday to Laurie and Bill (my sister and brother inlaw).  Happy Birthday to Tim (my husband) and Happy Fathers day to my dad Ron.  I hope you all have fun and rewarding days.  Love you.

Garfield Dollhouse Build #53 – Office/Study Progress

So I have made more progress on the study.  I still need to do the baseboards, crown molding, install the french doors. hook up desk lamp and fireplace insert,  hang curtains, add artwork on the walls, and add knick knacks and books to the shelfs.  It’s really starting to come together.  I’ll just post pictures and let them speak for themselves.  I am very happy with how turned out.

Garfield Dollhouse Build #52 – 1st Floor Lighting

I finally got around to installing the lights on the first floor.  Yeah, go me!   They turned out awesome and I’m very happy with each of them.  I need to put bulbs in the dining room light but other than that they are all up and running.  I also hung one of the cameo pictures in the living room and  installed the wall sconces in the 2nd floor hallway area.
